Los Alamos began the tournament with six straight wins over Hot Springs, Carlsbad and Clovis in pool play to enter bracket play as the #1 seed in their division. The Hilltoppers met up with a Texico with the winner advancing to the semi-final match in the Gold bracket on September 7, 2019 vs. Albuquerque Academy. Los Alamos did what they haven’t done in the last two matches- mitigate mistakes and errors. The back row delivered copious “3” ball passes and Elise Olivas fed the front row a steady diet of balls that were put down with efficiency.
Natalie Gallegos led the way with 11 kills, Eden Schmierer was next with 9 Kills and Michaela Gonzales had 6 kills. Elise Olivas had 33 assists due mainly to the wonderful passing from Gracie Swensen, Lizzy Atencio and Bella Aguilar. The entire Hilltopper crew played efficient and productive volleyball, a good sign for upcoming matches.
